If you have linked NANDS and use menuHax as entrypoint they will use the same theme data, thus rendering the system unusable on emuNand higher than 9.2. You should be able to boot SysNand and EmuNand if they're both on 9.2. If you're not able to do so, check your SD card after emuNand creation, if you use decrypt9 you should notice the name of the unit different, and less space than default. If you see the same original SD card space and no name changed on the unit then it may be a problem with the hax not working properly.

If we redo the steps for updating a 8.1J system to 9.2 but to update semi-bricked 9.2 to 10.3 by mocking the N servers in recovery mode shouldn't it work?

HTTPS is practically immune to man in the middle attacks or fake servers. Nintendo's update servers use https, we would have to change recovery mode urls to http. We can't do that without already running code in arm 9 I believe.

To ensure you don't brick, make sure you use the right sysupdater app. Also, when copying your .CIA files for the downgrade, overwrite them with the same cias in the zip. I did that and my 3DS dongraded perfectly.

Well, it's not really man un the middle but more of an impersonation attack. As i said, users with 8.1.0-0J are using something among this lines to grab a 9.2.0-20J (with browser!)
