Hey Ive kept a 3DS on 9.2 system nand and Im currently using the web exploit to run gateway.
Here are some questions I have.

(The main thing Im trying todo is to find a way to access gateway but not use the internet todo so)

Is there anyway I can access gateway other then the web exploit?

I understand I can downgrade my 3DS and use the good old DS profile exploit but Im kinda scared of downgrading. Is it risky? and will I lose all of my retail saves? also can I still play retail games if I downgrade?

Thanks for the help! :yaysp:

You can downgrade or you can run the web exploit. Those are the options.
You don't need an internet connection to run the browser exploit. Either host the page locally or use the android app.

Downgrading is a really simple process so that might be your best bet, you can also keep the emunand (the version of the firmware you boot into after starting the gateway mod) updated to the newest version so you won't lose out on new features or games that won't run on the low firmware, and that should apply for retail games as well since you don't need to have the gateway card in after you boot into the emunand. (that does mean though that you couldn't just pop in smash bros and play since the sysnand firmware would be too low, you'd have to load the exploit first.) I haven't tested save data myself but I think it should be alright.

Thanks so much, this is what I needed! Also I heard that once in gateway mode and you try to play an updated game lets say smash bros, it will run but state that the save file is corrupted... Can I have someone confirming this or did they fix this?

You will lose save data from retail games.
You can run the web exploit even without access to the internet using an android phone.
You can also leave the 3DS turned on in suspended mode as long as you want.
I have left it on for more than 4 days (with GW out of the slot) and it still had some battery left.

I haven't heard of that particular issue but one quirk I know of with smash bros saves is that the game uses so much of the 3ds' power that the system needs to reboot when you quit, and when you're in gateway mode in order to keep your save you need to back out to the home menu before turning it off, so what you have to do is open up something else while smash bros is still running, then exit to the home menu from that.

oh ok, so there isnt a way to backup the saves from a retail card and run that rom off gateway and use the backup save?
Also I understand you can use an android phone but the fact is its so much easyer using the ds profile exploit, when I use the web exploit it almost always takes a couple times. Thanks!

I was giving smash bros as an example, I heard this happends with most/all retail games. I thought it was something todo with diffrent formats being compatible or something..

I can confirm that although all of your eshop saves/CIA saves will stay, Smash Bros's save always goes corrupt, no matter what I tried. Just a heads up.

I think there is a way to do it, but only for "CARD2" games. I saw a thread related to that the other day.

This is what I was talking about!, is there anyway I can bypass this? maby backing up the save to the sd card and playing it from a rom?

The thread I read before was this one http://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-the-emunand-save-data-mega-guide-gbatemp-doesnt-deserve.378491/
Taking a better look it seems there is no way around, you just lose the save data if you downgrade.
Anyway I just did a quick overall read of that thread, if you want to read more in detail perhaps there is some solution in there, but I think there isn't.

I just googled and drag and drop seemed to be possible at the time

idk, but in high school at least, I used my ipod as a portable HDD to store World of Warcraft game files on and play it on the school PCs when I was done with my work each class

I finally got a proper torrenting vpn!

    Nice. What VPN? PIA?
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
It's called AirVPN, it was highly recomended by fmhy
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
It supports port forwarding as well!
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Nice. I use privado VPN, got it for free with one of my usenet providers. It sucks, doesn't support port forwarding so I have issues connecting to a lot of peers. But still prefer it over not using one

  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
I guess it's better than nothing. What's the advantage of Usenet?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@Plazorn, upsides to usenet - SSL encrypted so no vpn needed, it downloads from the usenet provider's servers and is not peer-to-peer, generally can download as fast as your internet/router/storage can possibly allow, usenet providers in different countries have different takedown policies a la DMCA, and if you have multiple providers you might be able to grab bits and pieces of a file from multiple providers in order to still get stuff that was removed from one (they generally don't remove all parts of the file, just enough to make it non-functional)
    +1
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Downsides is it does cost money, having multiple providers is useful as mentioned above but then you're paying more money, and you need NZB indexers (the usenet parallel to a torrent tracker) and the good ones also usually cost a small amount of money.
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Oh yeah, also since it's not P2P there's no ratio to maintain or anything. If you wanna download 5TB a day or whatever, knock yourself out
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I generally prefer usenet over torrents, but I do like having torrents as a fallback option
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
That's really interesting @Sicklyboy , I was always under the impression that usenet was slower than regular internet. Also the fact that you don't need any vpn for it to be secure.
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
It seems like it would be less stressful, because you wouldn't have to worry about piracy trolls as much
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Yeah, like at the end of the day, with the few usenet providers and NZB indexers I'm paying for, I'm probably paying anually what a netflix sub would cost. But netflix doesn't have everything media related I want, let alone other stuff like games and software :D
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
But it's largely set it and forget it
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
On black friday and a bunch of other holidays you can usually find providers doing like $35/year sales on reddit. And the indexers are usually like $15-20 for a year and a half on sale
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
You pay for the convenience at the end of the day
    +1
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I have I think 3 providers I'm currently paying for and 2 indexers. So probably around $110 a year if I had to guess in order to keep that setup going
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
But you certainly don't need to go that deep into it, you can do very well with a single provider and single indexer
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Yeah the convenience factor is unbeatable imo. Worth it to me
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
thanks @Sicklyboy, Usenet makes more sense to me now.
