ROM Hack Question about transferring saves

Hi,

Sorry don’t know if this is the right place but-

I have been playing one of my games which I bought on a patched switch with firmware 4.1.

I have now bought an unpatched switch which I am planning on installing CFW.

I would like to play my physical game on the new switch, but to transfer the save data so I do not have to start from scratch.

Is there any method for this?

(I am returning the patched switch so can’t just use that to continue playing my game)

Since you don't keep the patched switch, why not simply make a system transfer? You can hack an unpatched one on any firmware.

That is true. The only issue is that I would have to update it which (if I understand right) will burn the fuses and so I will not be able to downgrade etc?

Not if you do it properly (AutoRCM + ChoiDujour).

as far as I know there isn't really any reason to downgrade, all cfws work perfectly on every firmware

There are no reasons to downgrade but good reasons to be able to downgrade. Like a permanent hack for example.

If I set up RCM and use ChoiDujoir that would mean I would have to hack the new switch and in that case can’t go online to do a system transfer between the 2 switches?

I may be wrong in that idea but that is what I understand of it!

So you can’t hack your patched switch and you also don’t want to hack your unpatched one? Well, then you need to do it the official way.

Sorry I didn’t make it clear- I will be hacking my unpatched switch. But wanted to still be able to play my bought game with the save data. So I do not need to restart it.

But to do system transfer, you have to have internet access I believe. So wouldn’t Nintendo catch me going online with CFW?

I never did a system transfer but if you need to go online for that, it’s not a good idea. But if you have made a clean backup, you could backup your saves, restore clean backup, do a system transfer and restore your saves.

I have just looked and you have to be connected to the internet- it says that firmware needed is 4.0 or higher. Is there anyway to update my unpatched switch to just firmware 4.0, system transfer and once I have the save data, I can go and install CFW on the unpatched switch?

No, you can't update your patched switch to only 4.0.0. For that you would need CFW to run ChoiDujourNX.

Ok that’s fine!

I think I will just have to lose my saved data! Seems to be the easiest thing.

One more question- when I go to install CFW etc, do I need to make a backup of the switch beforehand? Or is this included in the guide from the sdsetup guide?

The only way to do it is to fully update patched switch, use choidejournx to fully update unpatched switch and autorcm to avoid fuse burn and finally take them both online and do a system transfer. Hopefully you dont get flagged while the unpatched switch is online. That's the only way and it runs the risk of ban. Its low, but it's still a risk.
