Hacking Question about bricking

I heard while back somewhere that if you install Gateway but don't boot into Gateway mode for 6 months that your 3DS will then automatically brick itself. Is this true?

I'm running Gateway Ultra 3.7.2 Beta on an old 3DS XL 4.2.0-9U / GW3D 11.1.0-34U.

Is this because of April 1st ? Because sure you can brick your device if you don't properly follow the instructions, but this
