I've tried connecting via wi-fi and ethernet both at my own place and at someone else's. I've reset the router at both places and it won't sign in no matter what. I've also tried formatting the HDD.. I need to get online to just download an...

Putting games on an original Xbox isn't that hard at all.
Only thing you need is Qwix.

Provided you've upgraded the HDD from 8 GB to whatever size.
