hi all,
I saw some joy-con mods on YouTube that people took apart & colorized them => Custom colors.

and since I have a black switch + case, but there aren't any black joy-con shells to buy,
so I thought of buying a 2nd pair of Gray L/R switch controllers to

1) disassemble using step by step guide (Ifixit)
2) spray paint -> black

my question is tho,

1) is there a specific spray paint that I good to use for the painting of the shells?
I mean paint that won't rub off and stick perfectly?
I found some black spray paint for 5e that says it's works for plastic which is what the joy con shells are made out of,
so it should work out fine?

2) how many layers of spray paint are needed? 1, 2 or 3?

3) I don't need to sand the shells down or use a primer?

4) since my console is legit (no mods) etc on it, if I use the "joy-con toolkit" to change the SPI flash of my custom joy cons
(when I get them & do the mod), this can't get you banned or anything?
changing the joy con's color on the switch? (appearing as black in the system).

thanx

I can't answer 1, 2, or 3 but for 4 it's possible some games could send the color to Nintendo. If it isn't an "official" color then it was modified by the user.

Still, this doesn't require a hacked switch, only connecting the joycons to a computer. It's possible this might serve as an indicator that the user is capable of doing this stuff, but by itself does not indicate the presence of CFW. I guess what I'm getting at is that I don't think this alone would cause a ban, the same as playing the same "cartridge" online at the same time as someone else. It is however, a clear mark that the user modified the controller, and depending on how zealous nintendo gets, I'm unsure if this could contribute.

You won't get a ban because of changing the color through the toolkit.

For painting, it's a bitch. Most people use an epoxy/resin paint and top coat to withstand the wear and tear. I spray painted a couple, but never ended up putting them together or selling them. 3 coats of black, 2 coats of clear. For the buttons, 2 coats of red, 2 coats of clear.

thanx guys for the tips,
day I into my mod on the right joy con and I fucked it up,

my mod was a massive fucking failure :(

1) I had trouble getting the battery out, finally got it out using spudger,
but I saw that the red wire (still attached to the black connector ) had scrapped off a bit of it's protect shield,
the battery has no power (out of the box),
but um, this means that if I charge it with this exposed part, it'll not charge & blow up?
I taped it wit some black PVC wonder tape I had (incline it)

not sure if it'll work, but this might mean that I could possible risk harm my switch (if that happens I will cry hard :( ).

2) the spray I got was okay, but it rained so my spray was a bit messed up, plus it still hasn't aired out 24/7,

3) the rest of the parts/ bit were super easy to get out with minor issues ;) thank god, but that battery is a problem.

I'd rather not risk my exp switch with games/saves on it for a stupid mod that might harm it in the end.

I thought I could do this mod, but I was wrong.

also, if I change the SPI's of my gray cons to black, and Nintendo updates the system or con's frimware can that brick my cons & switch?

thanx for the help and tips guys reguardless of my outcome :)
