I'm having problems playing certain psx backups on my modded PS2, I've been told my lens could be failing. A guy I know had a few spare lens but neither of them worked however he told me of years ago knowing of a program that was able to burn PS1 games to a DVD-R and make them playable on your PS2

Google search proved frivolous so was he just talking out his ass?

Well, it's possible to convert and burn PS2 CDs to PS2 DVDs, but I've never heard of any method to play PS1 backups other than a modchip or disk swapping.

I also know that it was not possible (searched a lot about it). Something to do with the architecture of psx games made for cds, but since the ps2 also had cd games, the dvd games could be converted.

There might be some sort of check at the beginning to ensure that you are using the proper media. But I'm just making a random guess, as I don't know anything about PS2 modding.

If you are having trouble with backups, try burning them at 4x speed.

It seems that the only games that won't work are Resident Evil PS1 titles, everything else from Tomb Raider to Final Fantasy works fine but pop in a version of Resident Evil and I get nothing but a blank screen.

I really don't want to have to buy a new lens just to play these games :/
