PSPhone CAPABILITIES BENCHMARKED

Sony Ericsson's much-awaited PlayStation Phone aka Zeus has tickled our fancy courtesy of leaked photos. Today, though, we came across a video of the mystical device's 3D capabilities being benchmarked using Neocore. The problem is, the result was not the one we expected. See video above.


24.4 frames per second? That is, to put it lightly, unimpressive, especially with other mobile phones getting better grades. For example, the Nexus S reportedly scored 55.6fps. The Nexus One, meanwhile, chalked up a score of 26.7fps, and that's from a year-old handset! What's worse is that the Nexus S and the Nexus One aren't optimized for gaming – at least not as much as the PlayStation Phone, obviously.

But we don't want to be disheartened because the PlayStation Phone in the video is just a prototype, not the final product rolling out from Sony Ericsson's oven. Software and (even) hardware updates and a few tweaks here and there should amp up the gaming device's performance. Because really, we just want Zeus to avoid the doomed path taken by another gaming phone.

well its STILL in the prototype phase---they could improve the AMAZING fps this BEAST can handle.

The PSP phone is just going to be another PSPGo and shortly forgotten about in a month

Sony just doesn't get it.....They had success with the original PSP but they just don't seem to understand the market anymore....I'm not sure if its because they have two competitors rather than one or what but they lost their touch..... (Competition from apple doesn't seem to bother Nintendo that much though...look at all the hype the 3DS has)

That's because Apple belongs in an entirely different market than Nintendo.
Apple selling more shit via App Store doesn't bother Nintendo.
Nintendo's (probably only) major rival is Sony and their PSP.

Both Companies are bringing out new handhelds.

PSP Phone is sort of a third pillar, insurance policy.

As a business move its actually pretty smart. Although most people probably wont agree with me on that point.

Even if it fails, maybe it will finally get Apple to start taking gaming seriously. How hard would it be to ad a slide out control pad to the iPhone/iTouch?

Eh........Its just a prototype, so hopefully they improve this before they release it.
If the price is somewhat reasonable and it can play PS1 and PSP games, I may get it.

if this was nintendo's first show of the 3ds then people would be REALLY pissed off. It looks shite, sorry sony fans but this really does look terrible.
on the plus side... I am definately getting a 3DS now. I thought this psphone thing would be good... shame. maybe video chat via 3ds will make up for it.

I thought they would try harder than that game video. could have used a known franchise as visual comparison to other devices.
