How do I downgrade from official firmware 3.40 on the PSP Phat 1001.
Please do not tell me to use a game because my disk drive doesn't work. So can I use a softmod option? I really dont what to install a modchip because I do not know how to solder and I dont want to void my warranty for just a mod chip. But I need a new screen and a new disk drive so I need to void my warranty on those thing's.

PSP? This is the PS1/PS2/PS3 section. Anyway, why would you downgrade your PSP? Upgrade to 5.03, use signed 5.03 kxploit, from there run a CFW installer and install 5.50 GEN or something like that. You can download the 5.03 update from numerous places on the internet.

Alternatively upgrade to 6.35, use 6.35 PRO, then run Hellcat's Recovery Flasher to downgrade to a 5.50 or 5.00 CFW.

EDIT: And there was only ever one modchip for the PSP, and it hasn't had a use for a long time.

If you have a waranty, doesn't that mean Sony will fix it for you O.o

To downgrade a Phat PSP, use a Pandora battery. Using a game doesn't work anyway. To create a Pandora battery, you either need to mod the battery (cut one wire), or use a PSP running CFW. IIRC, the homebrew needed is Hellcat's recovery flasher.

A better question... why would you want to downgrade from 3.40?

If you really are referring to the PSP homebrew to downgrade a PS3... well, again - why would you want to? If it's about recovering OtherOS, you can use AsbestOS instead.

No I do not want to Jail break it to download any ISO's or game's. Also does 5.03 downgrade even work?
no this is not for PS3 because Sony would file a law suit to me. Plus I also don't own a PS3. Where is the forum for PSP?

Then this is definitely in the wrong section. It should be in this PSP section.

A Pandora battery works on any firmware version, and you can essentially go to any CFW or OFW version - you just need the right update file. Check Rydian's PSP hacking FAQ for more information. By default, I think Hellcat's recovery flasher uses 5.00 M33-6, which has long since been the favourite version of the scene, but it should have a 5.00 OFW version too.

Also, Sony will not file a law suit against you for simply installing/using CFW and playing games from ISO. Once you've bought the console (PSP or PS3), it's up to you how you use it. The most they can do is ban your PSN account for using CFW - in which case you just make another one and carry on. Even if you decided to smash a PSP/PS3 into many small bits, they still wouldn't sue you.

So one final question... why are you trying to downgrade a PSP with a broken screen?

Because I will try to fix the screen when I get money to use.

I think my firmware is 6.40 so yaaahhhhhh.
I cant check because my PSP screen is broken.
Wow. Does your PSP have a flux capacitor in it?

(Note: 6.40 is not out yet. 6.37 is the highest official firmware at the moment)

I have no battery.

I tried making a Pandora Battery I sliced open the silver packet thing and it sparked

To find out what a flux capacitor is, watch the "Back to the Future" movie trilogy.

For the battery, I can't really offer any advice there - I've always used my second soft-modded PSP to create a Pandora battery rather than take the hard-mod option. Also IIRC, you're not supposed to slice a packet thing, just a leg. Once you're done, you can restore normal functionality by using a copper wire or some solder to patch up the cut.
