I want to get a PSP to hack, but I am not sure if it is worth putting the extra effort into finding a hackable 2000 or to just buy a 1000. The weight and size doesn't bother me, but I have heard that the screen on the 2000 is better, is this true? Is the anything else the 2000 has over the 1000? (or even vice versa?)

If you plan on using a lot of homebrew, then I'd go for the 2000. I haven't had any trouble with my 1000 and it's a sure hack, so that's a plus. Some emulation can use the extra ram, like for savestates, which can be an awesome feature.

1000 screens are duller and suffer more motion blur than 2000s.

This, but the 2000's tend to suffer more ghosting as a trade off....although i've never really noticed it (i haven't looked for it though!)
