From ps3hax.com
Elotrolado have done some in
depth tests on the PS Jailbreak
device, here are the results:
Main points:
* Backup Manager CAN be
uninstalled (his previous
comments on this were
misinterpreted).
* Backups created on one
console run on any other
console with Backup
Manager
* Backup to Internal HDD
is far quicker than
backup to external HDD
* Game updates already
installed must be
uninstalled or the backup
fails to load
Test Results:
God of War III:
File Size: 40.10GB
Internal Backup Time: 90
mins
External Backup Time:
280 mins
Red Dead Redemption:
File Size: 4.83GB
Internal Backup Time: 15
mins
External Backup Time: 40
mins*
* Fails (file over 4 GB)
Condemned 2:
File Size: 6.43GB
Internal Backup Time: 15
mins
External Backup Time: 40
mins
Resistance: Fall of Man:
File Size: 15.40GB
Internal Backup Time: 35
mins
External Backup Time:
100 mins*
* Fails (file over 4 GB)
FIFA World Cup South
Africa 2010:
File Size: 7.36GB
Internal Backup Time: 15
mins
External Backup Time: 40
mins

the only thing I find concerning is
"Game updates already
installed must be
uninstalled or the backup
fails to load"
I didn't even know you could uninstal the updates

uninstalling game updates is annoying.and i am a bit surprised to see rdr having a file over 4gb when the whole game is only 4.83gb(only).

I have a bad felling about the update stuff. Updates are installed to the HDD, and read form there when loading the games, right? It sounds like PSJB doesn't support to load anything from HDD yet while loading the games. If that's true, the compatiblity is less than 50%, because it would mean that all games that require a HDD install won't work + all games that require an update to work properly, won't work properly. Any confirmation on this from somebody with a PSJB would be nice.

then how can it load savefiles stored in the hdd?

Right i missed the savegames. I don't have a ps3, does it allow to save something else than internal HDD? Until somebody who has a PSJB does a real detailed test, my feeling gets worse and worse.

I don't think it's lack of file system support that's causing this problem, that causes the problem that files over 4GB can't be written. I don't know what's causes this problem.

Hmm... MGS4 is the only one I'm concerned for...
why

Since each time you reach a new chapter, the game has to over write the content it installed before.
Really? My reason is that I've been playing a lot of MGS lately.

But yeah, I guess that's a better reason.

All this is fine and well... BUT...

Backup Manager is just a utility from the SDK.

There is also a "BD-ROM emulator" which may prove useful, and if the source for these tools exist, they will undoubtedly be improved or incorporated into new loaders. The backup manager was never intended to be used as a piracy tool.

PSBJ allows PS3 owners to run unsigned code. That means HOMEBREW, with FULL ACCESS to the PS3's system. Media players, emulators, browsers... it will be wide open if the SDK makes an appearance in "the usual places" and the jig finally makes it to market.
