Pre-orders for PS3 Slim

We announced in late July 2009 a new version of the PS3 would soon be born. Well aware that the wholesalers who supply specialty stores have launched pre-orders from their dealers. Now, most stores of the hexagon can pre-order the PS3 Slim to put on the shelves from early September. The beast will be offered at a price of 299 euros. We will have more details on its design, the size of the hard disk and the contents of the pack on Tuesday 18 August 2009 at 18:30 since Sony will hold a press conference in Cologne in Germany at the gamescom (the biggest European video games). We are obviously there to allow you to follow the event.

Does anybody know if it will be like the PS2 where it was slim there were no new features etc or will it have new stuff

It will be SLIM that will be the MAJOR difference! lol

If it aint broke why fix it!? ... They are doing what they usually do make it SLIMMER and smaller and compact like they did with the psone/ps2 slim consoles but essentially keep the same functionality

They may however re introduce backward compatibility for ALL PS3's including this SLIM version by software methods as they have previously mentioned is a big possibility

I don't care how slim it is. No PS3 is worth that much money.

It's cheap for Europe, considering how much the phat costed at launch.

QUOTEIm praying this is like the PSP go where 299 euros = 299usd.

Probably. Sony don't know shit about currency conversion.

Yes, it is cheap for Europe. I've been looking at PS3s for some time now and the cheapest new one I could find was about 400 Euros and considering that this is a new model I'd say it's pretty nice for them to have a lower price on the newer one.

lol, what Maz said. If it isn't gonna be capable of anything new, I'm satisfied with my current PS3. Not like I'm concerned with shelf space to that extent.

"Oh no, I can put the PS3 here, but then I can't put the DVD player here! What'm I gonna do!"

I get what you mean but for those that don't the PS3 is a MEDIA CENTRE in its own right you don't need anything else with music cd/dvd/blu-ray/xvid/mp4/mp3 etc etc formats and capable of using USB MEM STICKS/SD CARD (not all models have SD card readers) / USB EXTERNAL HD's as well as streaming media to it from a PC

So the dimensions of the actual console is irrelevant ...my view is as it is now its more ROBUST and less likely to suffer any physical damage!

Slim or Fat, it doesn't matter to me. As long as Sony finally realizes it needs a price drop! I mean, manufacturing is down by 70% so it should cost less. The 80GB PS3 is getting pushed off the shelves which means we only have the 160GB which is like what, $400?

need pics

im guessing maybe a $50-100 price drop (before MS can do their price drop on the elite)

i dont think hacking would still be very plausible but the fact tht they are getting a slim is either
1.) they are selling ps3 very well and hence like the ps2, want to include a new console to make it even better
2.) Not as good as they want it to sell so a new console to impress the ppl
I think the 1st option is more appropriate esp since i read (on gbatemp i think) that, the producers or sony are satisfied with their sales considering maybe what they were expecting due to the price but price is not as big of a factor IMO than the games that are available at the moment on the ps3
PS2 still sells not bcz it is cheap but bcz it is the best console of all times (atleast i think it is and so do the statistics say so - sales, popularity, games and ratings)
