Hacking PS3 60 GB Ps2 games freeze when using ps4 controller

So currently I own 60 GIG phat console that runs ps1/2 natively, when running PS2 games and syncing my ps4 controller to console the entire machine locks up.

Any ideas or ps4 controllers just not able to run in older generation games when emulated?

Maybe the games aren't compatible with it and it freezes your system
Why not try to use another controller
