I purchased a ps2 and a memory card with mc boot how do I play ps2 back ups can I simply run it off a hard drive? what hard drive would I need? and will any game work or is there a compatibility list?

Mostly every game works but there could possibly be a game that runs sluggish. You should get an external hard drive (don't use a flash drive) and then you can put the games on it.It's not really important which type of external hard drive you get, all brands should work fine unless it's a bad hard drive that was used.

There should be 100% compatibility or at least close enough that every game you want to play works. You should get an external hard drive (don't use a flash drive) and then you can put the games on it.
I remember having black screen at MicroMachines (the 2002 'reboot sortof') with a loader i don't remember which one tho...

So I can just buy any external hard drive and I can plug it in the USB? I saw a youtube video of a guy using an internal hard drive in his ps2 fat (same as I have) so that's not neccessary?

And thank you for the compatibility list

Yeah they say the speeds are better if you do that but I think from what I was told that was more in the past they've improved the externals with usb I had like 100 games on it and all worked. I've now converted my PS2 collection to my hacked PS3 so that's why I am a little foggy on all of it but it's up to you I never used internal but some people swear by it.

That compatibility list will tell you if a game works with usb, or hdd which is internal so you probably want to read through it for all the games you want to work and decide by that. It's from 2017 it might be outdated though newest one I could find.
