PS1 emulator "Gamma" has been added to the Apple Store for iOS devices

Continuing with the number of available retro emulators found in the Apple Store, after Apple's decision to finally allow videogame emulators on their store, another retro console emulator is now available for Apple users to enjoy.

The latest emulator to join the ranks is an emulator for the original PlayStation console, titled "Gamma", by ZodTTD. This new emulator includes known emulator features, like Memory Card save emulation, save states, cloud save syncing, bluetooth controller support, and box cover artwork.
ZodTTD is known for having a wide variety of iPhone-centric applications, which include a number of retro emulators aside from Gamma, like an N64 emulator and others, and it's also a well-known developer in the jailbreaking scene for iPhone devices, with other apps like an Ad-blocker and homebrew games.

Here's a more detailed list of the features currently added into the Gamma emulator:
Gamma's description said:
Video game console emulation is here!

ZodTTD is back and this time they've brought you classic PS 1 gaming!
Gamma is the fully featured video game console emulator that you've come to expect.

Save States:
- Save and load a game at any point.
- Automatically save your progress.

Sync:
- Use your favorite backup services to sync your files.
- Automatically backs up your save states.

Hardware Controller Support:
- Supports your favorite console and PC bluetooth & MFi game controllers.
- Bluetooth & wired keyboards are also supported!

Controller Skins:
- Comes with well-crafted portrait and landscape controllers.
- Create your own controller skins.

Game Cover Artwork:
- Quickly set game cover artwork to your titles.

The emulator is now available for download in the Apple Store, and it requires iOS version 15.0 or above to be able to install it, and the emulator is also completely free. There seem to be some issue reports with the emulator, but we can expect those to be ironed out in due time.

Got this one yesterday morning, not sure if I’m going to play any ps1 games but I just didn’t want to miss out on this one just in case it somehow leaves the App Store. So far I just missed out on that one gba emulator with the ads. I also think the other day I seen another 3 star gba emulator but I don’t really need that one.

Metroidvania-style games are my absolute favorite. I fucking love Castlevania

Reviews are showing it’s still early, rough, and being optimized. Unfortunately, the iPhone hardware still needs a lot of a work to catch up to Android in the terms of optimization.
Keep in mind. iOS is limited as apple does not allow emulatiors with dynamic recompilers. This will limit the potential of emulation on iOS

All I want to see is retroarch, is that something that uses dynamic recompiler. Well I’m hoping for that retroarch somehow enters the App Store, don’t feel like side loading emulators on my iPhone or jailbreaking it.

has ads like previous releases, and is a bit buggy but, for those who can’t side load it’s a good temporary tool, as soon as we get providence (in TestFlight) or retroarch (in review), this is a fun toy.

Although this does show adding psx to delta itself would be possible.

Not to mention, it's funny that someone who makes (and charges for) an adblocker sells your data to advertisers.

"We collect Device IDs and use them for tracking purposes. We collect this information that you voluntarily provide to us when you use Gamma. This includes advertising identifiers, device type, and IP address requested by third-party advertising networks."

Gotta make money somehow.

For a second, my mind mixed up the words in the title and read it as "E-102 Gamma has been revived."

...Completely ignored the image of this post.

It begins. Even without greater hardware access, on Apple's chips we are going to see some pretty powerful and slick emulators.

Seems like physical controllers are broken on this. Every time you connect a controller and press a button, the app crashes.
Doesnt matter if you're connecting the controller through usb c/lightning or even bluetooth.
This along with the tracking ads, its a "no" from me.

Retroarch and Provenance cant come soon enough.

Congratulations, you can now do the same as a PSP only without real buttons because this emulator hates controllers.

Ooooh! I was literally just looking for a PS1 emulator the other day! I want to enjoy some SOTN properly!
Then you should get a MiSTer with a PS1 SNAC adapter from RetroCastle. It will give you that 1:1 PS1 experience you crave. :)

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
