I'm not familiar with vWii but I'm guessing it's similar. It loads up a custom version of the final PSP FW, complete with XMB. The Vita supports PS1 and PSP eboots. The advantage Adrenaline has, at least from a running games standpoint, is that you don't need PSP eboots. Any ISO or CSO file will work, and being able to compress them into CSO's can save a ton of space. Example: Crisis Core as an ISO is 1.6GB. As a CSO it's 1.3GB. The other advantage it has is VSH plugins and CWCheat compatibility. RetroArch also includes the PCSX ReARMed core, which allows PS1 to be ran as ISO instead of eboot, but you lose the ability to set CPU speeds and
