In any case, most level 3 proxies will probably be able to bypass general parental filters (since a firewall is overkill). IP proxies are set in internet settings so I won't bother explaining them, but web proxies are simple websites that you can type in a URL and it'll search and display the site for you. Since you're not directly going to the site yourself, most parental filters will not stop it. Only the most intrusive filters will catch this (or ones set to detect web proxies).

In every high school I've ever visited, I've always had no trouble finding kids who knew what websites they could use to bypass school filters. I also used to be the one to tell the teachers about them too (since I did a better job of administrating the school networks than the teachers did). Filters are there for a reason - to keep kids away from porn, illegal games/music/films/porn/virus downloads, and to stop kids wasting their time and school bandwidth and my time clearing viruses. Seriously, there were around 300 new viruses discovered every week!

You either get a web host that lets you do it, a vpn, host a server yourself, or install tomato or dd-wrt on your router and enable ssh.

Then get PuTTY (Windows) or just run ssh (Linux/Mac OS X) to set up a tunnel and point your browser to that.

It's usually a lot faster than a proxy, and it's pretty much undetectable.
 
Undetectable unless you knew what to look for. Fortunately for kids, most adults don't. Back in those days even though I could find them in minutes, I didn't bother removing them since I was just a kid and didn't have the right/authority to rewrite the entire system protocols.

Although really, why are you giving advise to an old thread about people trying to bypass filters and access sites that they were never supposed to access? As I said in my quoted post, filters are there for a reason - to protect the kids who should be protected, and to protect the system/network from the viruses they will inevitably acquire.
 
Instead of googling random Proxy IP, I'm using CCProxy (shareware or freeware for 1 account), which enable both Local computer to access the net using proxy (instead of share internet connection, which some microsoft program can't use correctly

), and WAN proxy (restricted with IP or MAC).
But it's only when I'm not on my computer, because if it's for bypassing the firewall installed on his own computer, it won't help.
It will need to be installed on another computer.

The advantage to do it yourself, is as Rydian said, no unknown people will monitor your data. it's your own proxy.


Then, on the computer needing to access the outside, you must do proxy tunneling (ACWWFAN, that's what you are looking for)
I'm using HTTPort 3s (freeware).
Maybe not the best choice, I'm just using old software I'm used to.


For example, your school is blocking IRC port 6667.
At home :
- Install CCProxy, create an account and enable WAN access (in advanced menu).
- Set CCproxy listening port HTTP to 80 (if 1080 is not possible at school)... well in fact set to an available port at school (80, 443 maybe, 25, etc.).
- check your router allow access to that port as a server if you have any firewall/antivirus/router
At school :
- run HTTPort3s :
proxy : your computer IP and defined port
remote adress : irc.server.net
remote port : 6667
local port : 130

- run IRC program with :
remote adress : 127.0.0.1
remote port : 130

What happens :
IRC program connect to HTT Port 130, HTT connect to your computer (which is not banned) at port 80 (which is an allowed port by the school), your computer tunnel the connection to irc.server.net port 6667 and send you the data back at port 80.


It may sound difficult and long, but once in place, it's easy.
HTT allow SSL tunneling using additional openSSL software.
 
At school I use a slax live usb to get past evil websense (it's the only company I hate more the microsoft)
