My son, who's in 1st grade, had an assignment to make a page about one of his heroes.
I was pretty proud of the result, so I thought I'd share/brag.

To paraphrase:

Bill Gates was famous for making it easier to work the computer.
He made Microsoft Windows.
He was one of the richest men in the world.

I'm a Mac/PC guy, emphasis on the Mac, but I got no hate for Microsoft and I admire Bill Gates too. I tell my son about anything he wants to know, well, pretty much anything, there are exceptions.

Anyway, I was particularly proud of this because I've talked to him at length about Gates, Jobs, Torvold, Bushnell, all those guys. I keep it pretty simple of course, he's just in first grade, but I was happy that he remembered what I said about Gates.

Even though I curse regularly about wonky Windows (and Mac OS, contrary to popular belief, i doesn't always "Just Work") I'm still glad we had pioneers that brought computing to the average joe. Computers used to be pretty elite, but now they're toasters, and almost anybody can work one. That's a Good Thing®
