I just got a vita and was wondering what I should get to protect it. What cases do you guys recommend that is not too cumbersome and can hold games? Do I need a screen protector? Will it scratch like the psp or did they put some sort of anti scratch in like on the iPhone and iPad? Will the protector effect the touch screen sensitivity?

You should at least get a back panel protector. A plastic cover that recesses your touch panel so you can set it down without scratching it.

I've never bothered with screen protectors for either my PSP or my Vita. Both are still in perfect condition. It's only the DS with its resistive screen and hard plastic stylus that requires a screen protector to keep it from scratching like crazy.

As for the case... well, mine is a pretty bulky case that stores up to 10 games and 2 memory cards. I don't mind bulky, as long as it protects good.

A crystal case works good, but access to the back touch panel (and possibly the touch screen, depending on the case) is restricted.

I use screen protectors for all my electronics. Replacing a screen protector costs maybe $10 at most. Replacing an LCD screen can be several times that amount.
