Hacking Project Idea : Super Mario Collection

We just need to understand the method used by Ryan Baumann : how to autoboot a rom from an emulator... http://www.pho3n1x.com/docs.html

He did it for SNES9XGX and VBAGX without explaining his method, it might be possible to do the same for FCEULTRAGX and any other emulator on the Wii.

Just take the Emu's and you are good to go for the NES, SNES and GBA games

N64 stuff is on VC.

exactly. what are you going to do?
Spend all this time planning, and building, and working so that when you're done you can breathe a sigh of relief
and play all the same games in the same emulators as before. Saving a handful of seconds.
And don't say its for fast swapping between games. First of all pick a game, and second- once you launch a game you're in the sandbox of that emulator and would have to quit out anyway to launch one from another system.

I'm not trying to nay-say, just to save people from wasting time. Get excited about something exciting

Front ends can be rather nice and make the experience more pleasant. And it wouldn't be hard to get the emu's to exit to the front end instead of the HBC. And in the long run you could add more franchises. I'd really like to browse my games by franchise rather than console...

I have to admit, a console blind game organizer that can sort by franchise would be nice.
But roms are very "in the wild" and un-standardized in their naming. So without some sort new tagging each user would be doing alot of manual config. Unless of course the app could compare hashes.
But I think I'm getting ahead of myself.

I have folders for my emu's catatgorized on Franchise, Developer, Genre, Import translated, etc
So I'm allready done. Anyone can do this with a computer.

But roms are very "in the wild" and un-standardized in their naming. So without some sort new tagging each user would be doing alot of manual config.

Not really, well not at all TBH. There's a couple of projects out there that collect hashes etc and have proper naming conventions for roms, and tools out there that will go through your all collection and check and rename them. I'd google clrmamepro and no-intro.

Fairy fluff, you using a gui? I don't see why, anyone can do it all really easy on the CLI. Something doesn't have to have a real use to be liked or nice. Music, television, DVD's, game consoles, art, theatre, all the humanities are pretty much useless with nothing to gain from them than a nice time. I don't see why people use facebook when I could do most of the stuff it offers on BBSs way back when, but it's prettier, easier, and still pointless.

-If you do, are you going to make several volumes (dvds) of this project? Like adding the retro ones in a volume 1, then the wii in other volumes?
-Are you going to use Dual Layered isos in order to put all the games in?
-Why don't you try a way to add DS games?

and finally...

-What about the people who cant run optical backups (dvds)? Because as far as I know the GC loader isnt out yet.

There's some games missing though (like Mario tennis on Wii, Mario Galaxie 2, Mario vs DK, and some more)
But that gives a good idea of game branching and covers.

And Not to forget it's Illigal to do. Unless there's a way to use the games you own. Wich makes it useless again...

Excactly my point, just buy/play the game you like. There's really no need for this for the mario games. There are just to many.

While you are at it make one for all the zelda games too. and all the puzzlers.
Wait let's make compilations of all previous Nintendo's hardware game library's....Wait.... there allready are emulators...shrug...It's been done.
Better make a themed Emulator gui with only one folder containing all mario games for that platform....

Are the burdens of thinking and choosing roms gone from your life? reallocating wasted time and filling it with self-satisfaction?

Yep. But did it years ago because most games are 20+ years old.

On the other hand I do not get satisfaction of this "let's collect all mario games and launch them with a gui, wich will take months to complete just to be incomplete, because there's no way in hell to load all my allready LEGALLY owned games, because there are to frigging many mario games I can count on one hand, without making it an Iliigal project" idea though....it's a nice idea but far from realistic.

Keep things simple get an emulator to play games or buy them.

Yeah sorry went a bit OTT. I mainly like the idea if it's not limited to to running off of a WOD and if it can handle more than just mario in the long run.

EDIT: I like the idea of the FE, teh DVD's could be nice for the few who can, but pretty pointless now and getting more so every day.

Am I stupid? Don't the Snesgx and Fceultra, etc emu's allready do that? You can arange games using folders you can make yourself...

I see the Wii itself as library to play ALL nintendo console games. So that my fancy gui.
If you own all the games there REALLY is no need for something like this. It's allready there.

I think he means do the emulators still require a mod chip to play roms off dvds.
