Bit of a necropost but wanted to point out the obvious:
Maxtor? Seriously? Haven't seen that in the field in years, that thing has got to be at least 10 years old. Seagate bought and basically wound Maxtor down in 2006. I haven't seen a working one in a few years, even if it was never used I wouldn't trust putting anything I care about on that drive. You can use Seatools to test the disk I bet.
