So I used to play on the SCHT private PSO/BB server, and I started up again. Well, unfortunately it seems they've added some anti-hack protection that scans all processes for certain key words or phrases and then kills them.

So yeah, I can't browse gbatemp with the game up without the game outright terminating the browser. :\ Hell, googling some stuff involving android kills it. I even had it killed repeatedly trying to load up a certain porn pic on a website...

And upon posting a thread on the forums asking them to whitelist browsers...

So yeah. Are there any other servers for PSO/BB that are still running WITHOUT asshole anti-hack practices?

Maybe check out BlueCrab's http://sylverant.net/ ?

I'm not sure what sort of anti-hack stuff they have though, if any.

Ahh, that's why it's closing as soon as I see my character?
But I used to be able to play with my browser and GBAtemp opened (well, it was at the beginning of the year, it might be a new protection).

Sometime it even says that I'm banned, but after few retries it worked.
Also, about the banned message the first time I played, I had to disable NOD32 HTTP scanning for the server.

That is some overzealous AP... I did not realise things were getting that bad. Indeed I would probably not be able to argue [against someone saying] that behaviour constitutes malware behaviour.

This said does Sandboxie or something similar not work around it?

Yeah the antihack stuff doesn't start up until the login process is done.

Yeah it's definitely new. I used to be able to run certain programs and tools in the background while sitting around in-game feeding my mag, but now various debugging tools are killed on sight.

I'm not happy about it one bit either, especially since the AP doesn't actually stop the game from being modified (since they're just working with the binaries for the client, not having source access). This seems to just fight against script kiddies googling for cheat engine tutorials and crap, it was trivial to attach a debugger once I tried.

The game successfully runs in sandboxie without freaking out over other programs that are running, thanks! Didn't even think of segregating the programs like that...

That said the client does like to crash still with an incorrectly-encoded foreign message whenever a UAC prompt comes up... I don't remember if it did that before they added antihack.dll to it, but oh well, that can be avoided too.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
