Gaming Preferred on-screen recorder

So I play Osu! a lot and would really like to know what you all consider would be the best tool to take onscreen footage of it.

Fraps is amazing, but it seems that video players can't keep up with the fast nature of the game...do you have a preferred FPS?

So when you use FRAPS what is the problem? Does it seem to have frames skipped out or its out of sync or something? In theory it should record every frame the game produces but limit the game to producing 30FPS or something...

If you can handle taking 60FPS (in terms of file size and computer speed) that's the better option for smoothness. I always take in 30FPS though and it works out fine

I use fraps for almost any Pc game (TBH I've really haven't used a FPS on it).

Thanks guys, I put it locked at 30 FPS and it works great

I'll try 60 locking it at 60 some other time, and I'll post a test vid in a few.

FRAPS is the fastest for recording games, and unfortunately I've never found anything free that compares.

For non-game things Camstudio is free and should work.

One thing you should be aware of is when you're recording a game with fraps, sometimes it can be messed up with an incorrect framerate. I use maws and set the framerate to whatever is native to the game and that solves most issues. Recording at half resolution is good if you're computer can't handle the full resolution.

You could try Dxtory. Apparently it's supposed to put less strain on your CPU so you can still get good FPS while recording in-game.

Yeah, I'm using it in a way I'd rather not, but I won't make excuses like "it's out of my budget" because despite that being true, Patience is a virtue.
