If he is confident that he will make a 3ds emulation, then do you think he has the common key?
I doubt he has it, but it would be needed to emulate retail 3DS games.
If you hold a 3ds in salt water for a few hours, you can play 3ds roms from the sd card.
I thought people had become bored of posting these "funny" (read: completely stupid and inane) suggestions...

So you think he's full of shit?

So you think he's full of shit?
I think that if he is truly planning on writing a 3DS emulator right now, it'll be based on existing documentation and will not include decryption for 3DS games. i.e. will not actually work with commercial games at present (unless someone in the 3DS scene can actually decrypt 3DS games; if so, maybe it'll go the way of the PS3 scene i.e. a mess). Technically, the emulator could possibly be made to "work", but it wouldn't be able to run 3DS games until such time as either (i) the common key is made public or (ii) release groups find a way to decrypt 3DS ROMs and release decrypted versions

Personally, I don't think there's much point doing that right now, but perhaps he just wants to have his emulator virtually finished by the time (i) or (ii) happens, so he can just tweak it a little and have a working emulator, before anyone else who would wait for those things to happen.

So he is preping for when the bomb drops and we have full 3DS access and in the mean time we have the ability to prep our releases as well. Am I getting this right?

There is a time and place for this. And here is the place: http://gbatemp.net/topic/307017-3ds-shop-exploit/
The link is to the "joke" posts of how to hack the 3DS. Page 3 is hilarious.

Sorry i posted in the wrong area before but i posted this.

Would this work.
Backup 3DS files onto a PC
System transfer to another 3DS
Restore backuped files from PC to original 3DS.

I thought this as the database files from the downloads are stored on the 3DS.

Hopefully, We can eventually decrypt ourselves, dont feel like pirating :P

couldn't you just redownload?
you need an internet connection either way.

I hope an exploit will be found eventually. So all the apps can be loaded from SD card, just like what happened to PSP. No more flashcart. To find the exploit, maybe DSi would be a better target, DSi and 3DS must share a lot of security measures.

what about a eyefi sd card? hack it so you can send files to it. after the game loads?

And it happens again. Will people just shut UP about already shot down theories.

Here is the link to 3DSbrew's list of exploits: http://3dbrew.org/wiki/3DS_exploits
If you have a theory, test it first before posting. If you can't, look through all 76 F***ING pages to see if that idea was already suggested.

Say it works, what then? You can't run unsigned code and we have no key. We also have no way of making the SD interrupt a game or app while it loads.
One could hope that someone relied on repeatable read of some unencrypted data. Would be stupid but that IOS bug wasn't exactly smart either.

The "facts" he posted boil down to "There is no known exploit".
That does not count as a valid rebutal in my book.

Does it count as a valid rebutal if it is the truth? Love the enthusiasm but if you read, you'll see why most of us are getting tired of this. For now, just wait and play your games. If you want homebrew, wait until 3DeSmuME comes out.

The suggestion was never going to be useful, but your reasoning is invalid. The inability to run unsigned code and the lack of a key is the exact reason people ARE trying to find a hack. That's what a (theoretical) hack would do; load unsigned code, and possibly give access to the common key.

If being unable to run unsigned code prevented exploits, there would be no exploits for any console. The point of the exploit is to run unsigned code.

The reason this isn't a useful suggestion is that if a game loads files from an SD card, it will check them before loading. So it doesn't matter when they are replaced, whether it is while the game is running or not, because if they aren't the right files, it won't load them. Probably also encrypted, and no, having the common key would not help with that (without private key, all you could do would be decrypt).

actually my suggestion a few pages back was a ram exploit. of sorts,

You really think that out of "there are no known exploits" follows "it's impossible that there is a unknown bug in the SD reading/verifying code" ?
Sorry but I think that logic is not sound.

I think its unlikely but that bug is actually not unheared of other systems.
