I'll second that, especially after seeing how well the 2500/2600K does.

But Caviar greens are mainly for storage and stuff, not really suitable for booting
unsure.gif
i don't see anything wrong with booting through a WD Caviar Green . . .
unless you really can't wait, then there's no problem :\
I know my hdd is my weak point in my pc
and some games load slower then on my friends pc
but I wanted my pc to be a pc with bang for not so much money
so I took my hdd from my old pc
but yeah those extra couple of seconds doesn't bother me
smile.gif

and it spared me €60-80

Current build:
Intel E8400 @ Stock
ASUS P5Q-E
OCZ 2GB DDR2 (2x - total 4GB)
ASUS GeForce GTX260 SP216
Western Digital 320GB SATA II
Crappy 20$ 550W PSU (works wonders!)
Pioneer SATA DVD Burner
ASUS Vento Case (a cheap small model. I had to cut out some steel inside to fit my GTX260)

Still runs almost everything on Ultra-High, even if it's a single GFX-card system.

Probable future build (might change something around):
Intel Sandy Bridge EP with LGA 2011 (still dunno what model, as they're yet to be released)
ASUS hi-range LGA2011 Motherboard with UEFI bios (I totally want one)
4x 4GB DDR3 (total 16GB, I guess they'll be enough)
Good SSD as boot-drive
1TB SATA3 drive for storage
GeForce GTX560/565 (or whatever mid-high GFX card they'll get out in Q4 2011)
Modular Powersupply and an Antec (or something high-end) case if I feel like wasting money on something non-essential.

I can't wait for the LGA2011 Sandy Bridges to be released
smileipb2.png

Why the fuck would you ever need 16GB? I know it's dirt cheap, but really, you will not feel the difference of 8GB to 16GB. I think 8GB is overkill actually. Better spend the money on an SSD drive then.

Welcome, necro-poster.

My machine, Gravitron:

MB Brand : Gigabyte
MB Model : GA-990XA-UD3

CPU PSN : AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor
Freq : 3624.16 MHz (201.34 * 18)

CPU Cooler: ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

RAM : 16384 MB DDR3 Dual Channel (4x4GB G.Skill DDR3 1866 @ 1600 :( )
(I'm thinking of removing the 2nd 8 gig set because even though I got the same series RAM, I can't get good timings out of it in the upgraded configuration, and like others say, the difference is negligible.)

GPU: HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950, 2GB GDDR5, 256-bit memory bus

Boot SSD: ADATA SATA III 120GB

Bluray burner, 500 GB SATA II mechanical disk, Antec LanBoy Air Blue case. Antec High Current Gamer Series 750W PSU.

CPU: Intel Core i5 2600K
PSU: random chinese brand 400W
GPU: GeForce GTS 450
RAM: 1x 2GB samsung
HDD: 500GB WD SATA2
Mobo: something Asus I believe
Other: nothing. I didn't get me an optical disc reader, a card reader or anything, to save on PSU.

It's custom built in a microATX case. The GPU was hard to find (a decent GPU for a micro ATX case).
It doesn't play Skyrim in ultra high, I only get to play in "High" at 1366x768 or something like that.
