Because the term is 200 years old and needs a facelift for these modern times. Talking ancient English is not on fleek, my brother in Christ. Capisce? Get with the times, daddy-o.

As far as I know, this fetish began in the 50s/60s when "Retro Futurism" became popular in Comics and TV Shows.
Some says it began with the Japanese Edo Art era, where it was popular to portray women with octopuses.
But meh, I don't understand the tentacles/alien fetish.

So their movies won't be labeled as a "zombie"-type movie from the get go, which could subvert the expectations of their potential viewers before even watching the movie in question, as many are over the zombie craze..
