Debatable, my grandma used to feed me great old mexican food recipes, mostly containing meat and vegetables. Your post is too anerican/white.
Are your little sisters, aunts or nieces learning from your Granma? at my home my little sister do not know how to cook a egg... and not interested on learning. The old grandma recipes are cooked for me but as I will haven't kids think the recipes will lost forever.

Grandma's passed away a long time ago. In the case of my two (older than me) sisters, mom taught us. Grandma taught mom and great grandma taught grandma.

Same for dad's mom, that grandma taught my aunts but only one is still doing okd recipes, recipes that are unknown to me but I've eaten when we used to visit grandma's house.

Wish both grandma's kept a recetario but both didn't knew how to write well. Both of my grandmas were born in the 1920's-1930's and passed until 2016 (both!)

Both of them. They're still alive when we eat something like, rice or a stew and we're like: "Taste like grandma's!".

Okay, find this funny because I used to think the same.
But then I remember I graduated highschool with a technical career in pharmacobiology and lab assistant.
Expire / Best by just means that the food has lost most of it's nutrients or that the consistency, taste and quality of the product won't be the same by that date. Nothing more.

Actual fungal growth or decomposition of a canned product occurs only when there's an external contamination with germs/spores, or low quality and hygiene procedures during the product's production.

No, you shouldn't be eating expired canned food. It's not healthy.
