i have nothing against the 3DS design, it looks awesome but according to the vid below, if you skip to 1:30, the booth girl says..

not at this time, this is just a prototype.

UPDATE: on the vid at 3:30 another girl says.
QUOTEThis is does not represent what the final model plastic outer case will look like, this is just a prototype, this is our developmental. this is our opportunity to just show you what we have. so dont be surprised if you see changes. it could be.

the part above seems to confirm it

UPDATE:
YES CONFIRMED.

the link to the site is here, & the vids on that page.

ok the designs awesome , but...
why is the head phone jack in the middle at the bottom?
does it support DS headset? (doesn't look like it)
what are those holes near the bottom corners for?
they moved the mic back to below the screen?
they turned the volume button back to a slide?
& im confused about the entire top part being black but looks cool at the same time for some reason.

Don't like the power button position and the audio jack position makes the handheld look a bit awkward when closed.

I think honestly this is the final design until a 'Lite' version comes out unless this isn't a final new product, like DSi wasn't. I think she was just simply referring to the restriction of cameras and things because they weren't able to use them in that showcase.

They could have done better with the design IMO but they could have done a LOT worse... The top screen for instance takes up way too little space making the whole top shell look wasted or useless (basically is useless apart from speakers and camera)
DPad looks to be quite badly place but if the 3DS uses mostly joystick then I'm fine by it.

EDIT: Plus further evidence that this is final. They made a whole CGI advert for it I dont think they would waste such money!

Its not the final but we won't know how many changes they're going to do. I don't like the fact that the two screens aren't even.. it might just be me though. I was also hoping for a second analog stick but I wouldn't mind if that never happened.

I'm really curious how SF4 is gonna be played on the 3DS. I can't wait.

ok, ok I got to say the buttons placement could have been better, but the 3DS is still great.

So a different design could be nice.

I would expect some kind of design changes. I hope they move the audio jack placement.
Also I don't really like the placement of that analog pad. I understand it makes it fit better with the XYAB buttons but then your hand will be resting on or beside the d-pad.
Besides the the d-pad has always been in line with the XYAB buttons. The hinges look funky on the developmental model but otherwise I kinda like most of it.
That left side of the DS just bothers me.

By the way.. is the microphone just to the right under the Start Button? I see a hole there but I'm not sure what it's for.

I dig the look.....I did thought they will do something completely different from DS design-wise, however, there is only so much they could do with the two screens, cameras and all the stuff they actually put inside!

werent the 2 screens meant to be real close together? what happened to that?

i hope its not the final design. and i hoe an XL version is not too far off....

the design is awesome, sure.
but i think we all can agree that it can still be better.

i am srsly hoping that they'd make the Touch Screen wide too, and what they said about the distance between 2 screens to be "practically nothing"

the 3DS is awesome, the Design could just be better

i was hoping the touch screen was wide too, but atleast its bigger than the DS & DSi.

I really don't like the design for the prototype all that much. It's a bit odd.

I don't feel that way, except for

QUOTE(Nikolay @ Jun 15 2010, 05:23 PM) Don't like the power button position and the audio jack position makes the handheld look a bit awkward when closed.

The slide at the top right is the 3D slider=CONFIRM
The port down to the "Home" button is an earphone port.
For mic, there is a SMALL hole under the start button or beside power button.
Volume control is on the left side of the console.= CONFIRM
Wireless switch on right side of the console=CONFIRM

EDIT: Write some confirm statement through what I watched from the video from engadget.

From the video, i heard the girl said:"This is just the prototype."and another said" This is just a demo"
