Hacking possible to use ipod in MPlayerCE?

i am trying to use my ipod to play avi files in MPlayerCE and it doesn't seem to be working.
i have my ipod set to be used as a storage device and i have my Wii set with USB compatibility.

when i am in the MPlayer menu i select open file and then load from USB. the menu goes blank for a few seconds and then just returns with the choices of USB SD or SMB again. SD loading works fine by the way.

what i am doing wrong? is what i am trying even possible?

try this: power wii off, insert USB, power wii on, load HBC etc launch MPlayerCE>Browse>USB did this work?
