A lot of the times when I follow a thread what I really want is just to follow the OP. This is useful for things like release threads, WTS threads, lists, and whatnot, where the first post will be edited often. If I were to subscribe to the thread I'd have to wage through the often idiotic banter to find posts by the thread creator saying "The OP has been updated!" which may not even occur. Is it possible to be alerted every time a certain post gets edited? If not, it'd be a rather useful feature to add to the site. A rather crude solution would be to use a website edit notifier, but since posts go from showing "Today at 1:23 PM" to "Monday at 1:23 PM" it would result in a lot of false alerts.

So what you actually want to do is go to the OP's profile page and follow them specifically?
That can be done.

Although I don't think you'll get the sort of updates you're wanting.

Sorry, by OP I meant original post, not original poster. Damn you, abbreviations... what I want is to follow a single post and be alerted whenever any edits are made to it.
