99% the appeal of this was 'its young women having a 'sleepover'', that doesnt carry much weight now that kids have the net and any kind of pron they can think of.

I remember hiring a megaCD along with this and a few other games in in 95 or so when I was about 12, such a horrible horrible 'game'.
If they originally shot it on film then there's a chance they could do a 'hd' release, more likely its all videotape so it will be a filtered/processed SD re-release.

Night Trap probably implemented one of the best gameplay mechanics for an FMV game.

That game looks so shit...
Based on what?

Ripper, or so I heard.
There's also Phantasmagoria 1 and 2.
Ripper, Phantasmagoria 1/2, Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within, etc. were good but they simply used FMV cut scenes. I wouldn't call any of them FMV games.

The appeal was the graphics.

on looks. and the fact that its shit.
It was a serious question.

So, you think it looks like shit based on the video in this thread? ...based on other videos? ...based on screenshots? ...based on what you heard? ...based on personal experience having actually played the game?
Do you think the graphics look like shit or did you mean the gameplay looks like shit?

In my opinion, Night Trap isn't a great game but it's not terrible. Especially given the context of it's release. It played a role in defining a genre, pushing the console market toward disc based media, and made a solid impact on the industry.

Nintendo actually owns the rights to a porno named Super Hornio Brothers.
... all things considered, I'd rather stop the mental images right here.
That's just so that no one can ever use it again :P

The appeal was the graphics.

you can count Megarace too, the gameplay isn't based on the video but the backgrounds in the races are FMV. that is the best way to use a video in a game if you ask me.
bonus point because the music kick ass and was also released on latin spanish(which is the version I own)

I definitely would, they all use FMV's extensively and the "sprites" are all digitized photos, clearly the intention was to give the impression of "interactive live action". ;)

Sure. Except the FMV cut scenes were non-interactive. Yes, they use video sampled character sprites but would you consider the first three Mortal Kombat games FMV games?
Not really, no - just games that heavily utilize FMV's, since that was the trend. I'm not sure if the FMV has to be interactive to call the game an "FMV game"- it just has to constitute a major portion of the overall product, at least in my opinion. ;)

...
The appeal was the graphics.

What graphics? It's poorly acted video (of super low quality on the megacd) with a simple overlay.

Don't get me wrong I understand others like the FMV games, but to me the appeal of FMV 'graphics' was lost as soon as I realised the games are just video versions of a pick-a-path books where the paths are 'continue' or 'fail' based on specific timing.
