Hardware portable hdd

i would like to use a portable hdd due to the fact that they are small. i ve been reading in need a y cable, is this whole setup ok to use and if so what brands. thanks

Brand doesn't really matter, I use a spare 2.5" HDD I had laying around that I put in a generic enclosure and an Y-cable I took from an external DVD burner.
I suggest to stay away from Seagate because they have higher failure rates but other than that anything goes.
