Debugging the game and the finishing touches is, and has been a lot of work. I want to get the final release out as soon as possible. But, I also don't want to release it with any bugs that can be fixed.

I also want it to be;
-as fun to play as possible
-difficulty set correctly
-have replay value
-UI and title screen hacked to Metroid graphics

So, I made this poll to see what everyone thinks.

you had us wait this long, and it sounds like all you have left are little things. Just finish it, man.

I wish it could go faster, but you would be amazed how much work and though go into it. Thousands and thousands of hours.

I think you should fix the major bugs and release your first 1.0 version.

You won't be able to find all bugs anyway. There's always something you oversee. And when it's played by the Tempers they will find any bugs and report back anyway. Then you can fix those bugs if you want and you don't have to spend much time searching for them.

Really exciting that it's finally released

Not released yet. Just seeing what everyone thinks. I can see how the title may be confusing. I am getting down to the hardest things to fix. I tried to edit the title to say "poll" but the site does not allow title edit that I can see. If the mods can change the title to say this please.

Yeah, and I know that you SpaceJump, now how close it is to being finished, so I can see that too.

Maybe it's about time for a public beta testing phase. As long as none of the bugs are completely showstopping, maybe the community could help squash the few remaining bugs by offering suggestions or possible solutions or work-arounds.

I must admit that I am pretty intrigued by this hack and can't wait to check out the final release. The only other DS game that looks even remotely interesting to me at this point is Alien Infestation, but that's at least a couple weeks away yet.

While I want to play this game sooner rather than later, I do understand your wanting it to be thoroughly playable before you release it and can respect that. Still, it's hard to fight that "want it now" feeling, simply because of a lack of decent DS releases.

From everything I've read about this hack, it is one of the most unique projects I've heard about on the DS. It certainly will be worth a spot on anyone's flashcart.

You do whatever you need to do to feel right about releasing it. While we are anxious for the release, we WILL wait for it, no matter how much we don't want to wait.

You cannot make a perfect release!!
Even when you check your courses for the tenth time, YOU WILL ALWAYS FIND NEW BUGS!

Remember my version 2.0?
I had to count it up to 2.0h!!

I told you 30 times!
Release the 1.0, and see how the feedback is...

There are 2 possibilities:

-1 positive feedback:
This will auto-force you to work on updated versions!
You will advance your courses, you will edit some more textures, fix some bug issues and much more!
See the mega improvment of the NSMB3 1.0 NSMB 2.0

You would work harder to make the community happy!!
And once the downloadcounter reaches 100,000 you will say:
Yay, everyone plays this game of "me"...

-2 negative feedback:
It sounds hard, but let's say the community is absolutly dissapointed...
Too hard levels, no challenges, retro graphics, too many bugs, "same" looking courses etc.

The only thing you would get be:
- depression
- stress
- developing some rage (real and virtual life)
- blabla

You would think, "It took me over thousands hours of work, and this is the thank for the great work..."

I think I AM THE ONLY ONE who really knows how much time you have invested to this game...

Release the 1.0, and look if it gets downloaded 10,000 times...
If not, give up, not worth to work more on that..
I know it sounds hard but you must also with this!

(Please don't get me wrong, but my hack was downloaded 25,000+ in the first night!
That means, you will need an advertisement --> a trailer IS required!!)

And the last thing!
Don't underdestimate the beta testing phase!

I always like to repeat this:
NSMB3 was finished in 3 months, the beta runs took 3 more
smile.gif
(= 6 months)
And since your game has much more tiles (see size of your trimmed rom) you will maybe need more

Not that I have much clout here, but I'd say release a completed beta and let the community sort out the bugs.
Doing that would make a final release come faster, and in theory lessen your workload.
Either way, i cant wait to play it. looks great so far!

My hack has almost taken a year. Yes, there is a lot of data. I am sure it is the biggest Mario hack by far. Way bigger than the original game. A lot of features not present in any other hack.

I know games will always have bugs. Can you name one commercial game that doesn't? There is a certain buddy of mine that started to debug and get the game closer to a final release, but he got side tracked on his own revision.

Maybe after his release we can get back to it.

The one thing that sucks about releasing a public beta, is that people are a lot less interested in revisions, than they are about the original. Public interest falls off sharply after #1.

Only I know these features

And they are indeed something special.
No one has it and nobody will ever have it!

It always depends on the content! When you release a beta for ewach 3 levels, you may have right! (As I did for the first world)
But I'm suire your hack will be a huge fame, just give it abit time!^^

I voted for "release it when it's perfect", but what I mean by that is release it once you're happy with it. You only have one chance to do a proper first release!

I would release an as-is version to some testers that you pick so they can report bugs that they find. Once you have those bugs fixed and the game is complete, release it. In other words, release it when it's perfect.

That's what he was doing all the time. I regularly did testing for him and judging by the last build he gave me a few days ago version 1.0 should be only days away.

luckwii, release the hounds

Voted release it when you think fit, refine it as you feel it needs to be! Looking so forward to this though, thx in advance

I think it would be best if you fixed all the bugs you know about before releasing. I am sure we will come across some as we play that you may not have noticed so then we can tell you and you can release another version. This is what SKJMIN did and I think it worked well. No matter how hard you try you will never get it right first time.

I am looking forward to playing your version. Good luck with it.

Also when this is released, it needs to be frontpaged!
Every kind of advertisement is useless when there is no trailer
smile.gif

He must create one. Better when he is finished...
