I experimented with this using a rom of Emerald on my PSP, but not sure how this works on 3DS. Am I having to run the randomizer on a CIA to install later (in which case will it override any legit/unrandomized game installed) or can I simply apply a randomizer to code.bin and add the result as a patch via luma?

You can do either or actually. If you're trying to do ORAS/XY (Gen 6) then you can either build a CIA to install, use layeredFS with NTR or use HANS. If you're using it for SuMo (Gen 7) You can either rebuild a CIA, use SaltySD, or layeredFS with NTR as well.

*If you rebuild as a CIA, yes it will install over your retail game and use the same save. This is because you cannot change the title ID of the pokemon games or they will blackscreen (for unknown reasons). If you use the other methods, then it can be toggled on/off but will use the same save. You can use JKSM to switch saves between a new on for a randomizer and you're regular one as well.

Thank you, I would probably use layeredFS with NTR as the idea is to stream this, so I would be in NTR-mode anyway. Plus, I would not have the patience to sit through a Pokemon install every time I want to switch on Sun.

I don't suppose you have a link to any tutorials for that method?
