Gaming Pokemon black/white version 2 exp fix?

Hi guys. I just recently got a pokemon black version 2 rom and put it on my ds flashcart (blue gateway card by the way running the patched wood firmware) and I had this problem where the exp meter doesnt budge. I was wondering if anyone could provide a fix for this? I stopped playing the game so i have no idea if the game has any other issues along with it. Anything is appreciated! Thank you!

you need to patch the Rom, that was the Anti-Piracy features placed int the game
