After you defeat the first gym, you meet the dream pokemon (forgot her name) and team plasma, after that you go back into the city and exit on the left and theres like a little garden with a guy blocking your path north, how do you get past him, also anyone know where to get old rod from

I can't say for the old rod, but go back to where the scientist showed you the dream machine. She'll give you the GEAR which enables a bunch of wireless features on the bottom screen.
