Hi i have a 3ds xl, that someone installed FBI for me. and some other stuff (among them freeshop)
When i log in to system settings the console says its on Ver. 4.2.0-9u

now i have installed some games to it, but there is one game Mario&luigi Paper jam that i want to install to my daughter and it asks me to install FW9.6.
I asked the person that modified the 3ds for me about this and he tells me i can update the console with no problems, is this true?

The console boots directly to sysnand, it used to have a hack that booted to emunand
Im new to this 3ds homebrew, How can i update the console manually? every time i turn it on it asks me to install a new update, i imagine this is the official one?
Thanks for reading my post

If you have arm9loaderhax (a9lh) or Boot9Strap/SigHax (B9S) you can update safely.
The question is are you using an old entry point such as menuhax.
We would need more info about your setup before we can go further.

If you don't know we can find out but we will need screen shots .etc

To see if the system has CFW you can typically hold select then power on the device. If a menu comes up like luma configuration you have CFW.
As we don't know if your are even using a9lh/b9s just looking in the root of the SD card will give us a few clues.
a9lh user will have a a9loaderhax.bin file and b9s users will have a boot.firm file.
Older entrypoints like menuhax will cause the bottom screen to change colors like yellow, blue, red green.
In settings where you see the system version, if you see "Ver. #.#.#-#E" you are most likely not using CFW, if you see anything like "Sys #.#.#-#E" you most likely have CFW.
You should also see if you are using Emunand just in case. You can find out if you are using it if you put the SD card into the PC/Mac go to the disk management and see if the SD card is a 1-2gb partition.

About 1 hours from now.

For a kids aspect Anbernic would be the better option they'd probably melt over the price on a good 4k display

For that texasroo guy, I'd recommend the Spell and speak as his first system.

So they buy a pi5 kit for about $150 and say a 28" 4k display probably looking around $400 total
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They'll be getting in the territory of portable Pcs anyway

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.

They could use HD out on their TV no real need for a monitor these days tbh the purists will disagree
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I'm kind of phasing out on the need for wanting all these consoles cool to have but they just become dust build ups
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I here ya there, I have too many myself, and have hard time letting them go, since most of mine I've modded at some point. Anymore I just play Switch on the go, seriesx at home.

I'm designing my own entertainment cabinet for my man cave, to store all my systems, then I'm also designing a power supply/HDMI switcher so I can switch to whichever system I want, and power it also. Already picked up the cabinet board, but tinkering with my drawings before start
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
