Alright guys. Brand new to the forum, although I've read a lot of posts on here about hacking the PSP and Vita. Hence, why I'm here. So, I recently bought a PSP 1000 from Japan in hopes of hacking it, just to hold myself over until the Vita 3.70 hack drops. Anyway, the firmware on the PSP I bought is 3.80. I've tried figuring out how to bring it to the current firmware so I can begin hacking it, but I just can't seem to figure it out, nor can I connect to my wifi on it to directly update it. I've watched multiple videos, read multiple guides, downloaded several different update files, and still, nothing! Is this PSP a loss, or can somebody out there help me figure this out? If any of you experienced PSP hackers could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it!!!! Thanks.

You can update to the latest 6.61, and do the following tutorial to set up CFW,

Might be harder for you since if the console is actually in Japanese than in English.

Infinity is unnecessary for a 1000. The standard cIPL Flasher will do.

If you don't have an SD card adapter for your memory stick, you'll have to enable USB data transfer in settings.

Again, the CFW isn’t the issue. It’s updating to a point where I can install it. If anyone can walk me through the update process, or point me in the direction of a decent updater, that would be great. I’ve tried the “download and extract into the memory stick” method, but it doesn’t show up on my psp to run the update. I get the UPDATE folder containing the EBOOT.PBP folder, but the program either doesn’t show up, or it says “corrupt file” and I can’t open it.

Try updating to a lower fw first and work your way up. Don't know why but this worked for someone else on here. You say your on 3.80? Try going to the next up firmware and then the next one and so on until you reach desired firmware. I'm not sure but i think lower firmwares have trouble updating directly to the most current firmware, idk why.
