Playstation Move
Motion Controller
Sony just announced their new motion controller for PS3 at GDC.

"Say goodbye to the Arc or Gem and hello to the PlayStation Move. Sony has revealed the official name for its motion controller, coming this fall in three forms - alone, with the PlayStation Eye, or bundled with a PS3.

The European trademark office spilled the beans a bit early, but that doesn't stop Sony from being excited about the PlayStation Move.

Speaking at Sony's GDC press conference, which we are liveblogging here, Sony's Peter Dille hyped up the Move, saying that "previous motion devices have used controller simply as pointer of mouse — ours becomes an extension of your body."

"We're approaching this like a virtual platform launch," Dille continued, explaining that the Move will be available by itself, with the PlayStation Eye, which it will work in conjunction with, and as part of a special PlayStation 3 bundle.

No concrete pricing details were given, but the bundle with the PlayStation Eye was said to run under $99.

Check out our liveblog for more on the PlayStation Move."

Sony is the laughing stock of the industry.

There is a LOT of hostility going around the web towards this move. This is probably going to turn into a major PR blunder.

And $99, lmao wow! Good move!

actually it's not a lightbulb

it's a light enhancement device

basically if its too dark in the room, you press a button on the playstation move and the ball glows and light comes out of it lighting up the room

playstation eye ($39.99) + playstation move ($59.99?) + what ever free games they throw in

You could do that.

Or you could hit a fucking light switch.

Check my logic why Nintendo has almost no threat from this.

It's a peripheral. A separately-sold one. For a good price tag of almost two games for the system. So, even supposing the tech itself is perfect, you can never hope 100% of the audience or anywhere near that actually own the thing. Heck, even 50% is VERY optimistic.

So, a problem for making games for the thing arises. I'm a developer and want to make a Move-compatible game. I don't know, how many people do actually own the thing. So, investing millions of bucks into a AAA-title based on Move is way too risky. It's much safer to go with a PSN release or just add some Move features in a normal game- not too important, of course, since the large army of traditional players must be able to play the game with traditional joysticks.

So we get a funny situation when half of the PS3 library is already move-incompatible, and a low probability of a AAA-title shower of new releases. So I'm pretty sure Move will end up with a handful of games, with 2-3-4 titles really worth it. Not a bad addition to the PS3 itself, but not a competitor to Nintendo.

When you work for the Wii, you are pretty sure EVERY owner has the Wii-mote, that's why move-recognition-enabled games are showering. The quality is sometimes very dubious, but you get your gems from time to time- plus, 80% of Nintendo first-party releases use motion tracking. Sony won't be able to do the same.

It's the fate of all the perepherials- from the NES Power Glove to the PS2 EyeToy.

Except it has been said by several devolpers(sp?), Natal causes the 360 to lag when connected. Not enough resources to run natel properly. than there is the fact microsoft left slip new form factors are being consider for the 360. Several of my contacts, say the arcade pack will by dropped when natal comes out and the elite will get the arcades's price. 2+2= the 360 will being getting a revision (redesign too?) with more ram and natel built in.
