ROM Hack PkHex Question

Hi guys. I use PkHex for save editing the 3DS Pokémon games. I am wondering though, does it also work with the DS games? If yes, how would it work with DS games on a Flashcart? I have an R4i Gold 3DS Plus. Thoughts and help appreciated
