That's not how ctrtool works. It's meant to be run from the command line. I don't think you get how this stuff works. Here's a tutorial on oras rom hacking.

VLC has nothing to do with this at all...

If you mean renaming the code.bin, just rename the file. You don't need to convert it or anything.

Oh, right. In that case, follow these instructions to show the ".bin".

If you're using HANS, the first 0x1000 bytes need to be removed. You can do that with HxD quite easily, by opening the romfs, hitting CTRL-E, selecting Length, putting "1000" in the box under Length, hitting the Delete key and saving it.

did mart changes on the exe then decompressed the code file but the mart changes don't work i named every thing right its game id .code and its in hans folderon root of sd card with romfs do i need to start a new file for mart changes to work

In HANS, did you set "Load romfs from SD" and "Load code from SD" to "Yes"?

yes i did do you have to restart the game for ir to work cause i laoded a file i had all the badges and it might cause it not to work right

im playing gbalpha sapphire and i decompressed the exe file that came with it and use code file and the marts that should have changed items don't maybe i need a new file for them to work all romfs stuff works fine though

Try doing it on a unmodified dump. It seems to be working fine for me.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I've got a question related to starters and Pk3DS.

I want to play OR again but I want to do it with a shiny starter and I don't want to restart during years. (Yea yea, I'm lazy blablablaa)
Is there a way to force the shininess of the starters? (in fact to explain a bit why I want to do that... It's really dumb but well, I've got shinies Torchic and Treecko from eggs and I want to get a shiny Treecko at the beginning because at the end of the game, during the credits, you see what was your starter like (you see the Pokemon you used to defeat each gym leader) and if he isn't shiny, and then I switch for the shiny one, it will be strange... I'm found of details )

Also, is it possible, atm to do a kind of brand new game as a 3DS rom hack? (Such as an old game remake?)
