I'm torn between in-store pickup or delivery. I'm worried that if I do in-store pickup, when I stop by in the morning (or after work), my console will get sold out from under me during the midnight launch and I'll get a, "Sorry, we ran out of stock and sold yours" or... "sorry, we can't find it in the system...... we'll notify you when we get some in stock again."

If I go with delivery....."I know you have a tracking number but it's lost in the system, sorry."

For me, going to any store at midnight isn't going to happen. Has anyone had problems with picking up a hotly anticipated console hours after normal store opening time or any problems with "lost" shipments that were scheduled for delivery? (Again, speaking about high demand items.)

Any PS5/Series X launch day nightmares that might sway me one way or the other? :)

The PS5/Series X launch sucked because it came at a time where technology scalping was at an all time high. Couldn’t even walk in to my local stores because they were sold out everywhere.

I’d go in store personally, because if they do (unlikely) sell it out from under you, you’re only at the mercy of their logistics. If you have it shipped to you and it were to, say, “not arrive”? Then you’re at the mercy of whoever you preordered it from and they may require a police report and all of this other stuff.

If you want to avoid porch pirates, (which a ton might come out near the Switch 2's launch) just go pick it up in store.

My wife works full time from home so she'll be here to get whatever and picking it up in the store.... I'm afraid if I go at a more normal time on launch day, the store won't be able to locate my system due to "unknown reasons".

It's wild to me how prevalent this seems to be as a concept in some countries, namely the US. Here, there's no such thing as just.. leaving packages unattended. If packages don't get delivered to someone at the address, it gets sent to a pickup point/post office - at which point you can only pick it up by showing ID/the message with the PIN/ID of the package.
