Photo Channel to be updated

To summerize:

1. Change the channel icon to a picture you want.
2. Loss of mp3 compatibility.
3. AAC support. .m4a files can be played.
4. Songs can be played at random.
5. Out in December, via Shop channel.
6. If you buy a Wii in December, it'll have the new Photo Channel, so you can't downgrade.


Not much of an update, but I don't like how they'll replace the MP3 compatibility..

Mii channel update please.

I'll be sticking to my psp for photos, thank you.
But yeah, no mp2 = major phail. Will not upgrade.
Still, this may mean updates for the mii channels.

I tend to use the Photo channel if I had a party and took lots of pics. Shares the pictures for everyone to see quickly I guess.

Other than that, pretty useless.

Uh-huh. So much for multimedia. The Nintendo MP3 Player addon for GBA and DS was sold in JP/EU, but not US.

when i first got my wii on opening day i had some good laughs at its pathetic slideshow option and photo editing tools. that was the first and only time i ever used it.

They must have made an exclusivity deal with apple to only allow AAC and not MP3 since apple owns the AAC codec. That's bunk!

Yeah its really useless but its still great to have one. : ) And if thats all the update includes then I'm not updating. No MP3 = fail.

I don't understand why they're taking out MP3 playback...unless the music companies are jumping on their backs...again.

It's nice when your family is around and they all want to view pictures. My family uses it pretty often. Still, why are they taking the mp3 playback off, makes no sense.

how stupid of nintendo, anyway it's not really a concern as i never use the photo channel for mp3's anyway so i don't really care, that is what my PS3 is for, if you are really desperate to play mp3's on your Wii's setup media streaming, i think tversity is compatible with the Wii.

i regulary watch slideshows on my wii. Of course allways with the mp3 playback on to play abrobiate music to the show.
If there is no mp3 in the update this is a nogo for me!
I always have some mp3 on the sd card of my digital camera in case I immediately want to do a slideshow of the pictures I just took during a walk or some session.

Maybe when you plug your iPod into your Wii, it'll do more than just charge it?

Same here. I'd just use the PC, PS3, 360, or various other systems I've got nearby.

I didn't even know you could play MP3s through the PHOTO channel. Weird.

I'll upgrade it just to have the newest version but I'll still never use it.

well as there are free aac encoders available, I think it is no much of a problem, to convert the few MP3 I would put on my Wii to AAC then.
Still this is one more step to do.
But the random play function is what I missed from the start.
Believe it or not, but once I used the photo channel picture "gismos" with a friend on some of the pictures, it was really funny for about half an hour just to play around with the pictures. Or even to jigsaw-puzzle a movie is funny too.
Even if I'd prefer to remain with MP3 I am going to upgrade my photo channel when the update is released!
