Gaming PC Gaming or Console Gaming?

I can't say I'm really a fan of high-end PC gaming. I don't like having to upgrade every little while and install new hardware and software just to play the latest game which won't even run at full capacity until an even more powerful graphics card is released months or years down the line. I've also always preferred a gamepad/controller to a keyboard and mouse. I do however do some gaming on the PC, to an extent; but usually with older and/or lower-end games such as Quake 3 Arena and Gunz. The sort of games I can run at 100% without a huge ongoing investment in the latest graphics cards.

When it comes down to it, I just like the simplicity of consoles; it's a pre-set, pre-made gaming unit. You don't have to tweak filters and antialiasing settings or anything of that sort, the console manufacturer and game development companies take care of that for you. That coupled with the fact that for me, the PC game market doesn't really have a large majority of game genres and brands I enjoy. I'm not interested in most FPS, RTS, or simulation games, and outside of emulation of older console games, I can't play the newest Zelda, Mario, Final Fantasy, and other new console brand exclusives on the PC.

Actually the 8600 has certainly advantages over the 7900GS. Of course, framerate wise the 7900GS kills the 8600. However, 8600 supports DX10 with Shader Model 4.0 / OpenGL 2.1 architecture. This will allow certainly things seen on the 8600 that can not be seen on the 7900GS, but yes, performance wise, 7900GS wins.

Meh... I've always favored console gaming more. Constantly upgrading a PC seems too costly, and the games are kind of split to just two major genres. Shooters and MMOs. I'll admit PC games have huge online communities and the online system is better than what you'd find on most consoles (dunno about XBL though), but local multiplayer is almost impossible with PCs. That's what Wiis are for. To gather with friends and play Melee all night.

they have been proven to have worse framerates in DX9 apps than the high end DX9 cards, such as that 7900GS.
they also have unplayable framerates in most DX10 games. honestly, if you want to buy a DX10 card, buy a high end one. if you want a DX9 playable card, buy a high end DX9 card.
for those games that he mentioned, the 7900GS is the best option.

I have a ati x1950xt (pro xt xtx) it is also a very good DX9.0c card plays crysis DX9 on high settings

Console gaming sucks in my opinion (except Hand Held) because companies are producing games (FPS Games especially) that work better for keyboard and mouse, that way you get better accuracy not like a control pad.

But most younger people go for a console because its cheaper.

Im will be building My NEW rig with tripple Graphics cards when some decent ones come out. Something like Geforce 9800Ultras Direct x 10.1.

But since you did, why not popping the overall FPS your handy dandy calculator and take a look at the meager 1% difference in framerate between the two hmm?
