i learned i need to use ms dos to run the game but i don't want to use MS-DOS
its old crap from a bygone era...
I see. However, it is not that demanding to use ms-dos: you basically have to use only the syntax "dir /p" to navigate inside the game folder and locate the executable files (exe and bat), then type the main one (usually "name.exe" or similar) to start it.

i even been banned on 2 sites for asking this already, but i think i'm getting better at explaining what i want
About that, I'm not surprised; your tone "comes out" rather overbearing and aggressive, even if you don't do it on purpose. Try not to get kicked out from here too, pal. Maybe slip a few "please" or "thank you" into your speech every now and then, if you get the chance.
😉

don't worry BabaJeanmel already uploaded the games as hdi for me,
so there is no reason for me to ask about this ever again

which also means that i'm pretty much done posting here so..

"thank you" BabaJeanmel you're a real professional

Is it possible to convert floppy images to HDI? It would be useful for games with multiple disks.
It's not that immediate. There is a certain annoying procedure, although simple enough.
You have to mount both the .fdi file and a .hdi file (empty of data, and of a sufficient size) on the pc-98 emulator, and in ms-dos you have to open the game and find install, setup or similar and run it, using the ms-dos syntax needed to install to the virtual hard disk (e.g. "install a:\ c:\"). If you don't know about this, perhaps chief here (the author of the thread) can help you in some way. 🤔 .... 🤷🏻‍♂️

The games asked by the previous user mostly needed to be installed on hdd from the original floppies to work. For disk-based games without install procedure, if there's not a HDI version already available, chances are that it's not possible, or at least without some hacking.

Some games use sector-based filesystems or proprietary FAT, others have hardlinked paths. You cannot just copy the files over and expect them to work together.

I've uploaded a few HDD conversions on my archive.org page (mainly Alicesoft/Elf old titles) should you need them. I don't have the current knowledge to make others, unfortunately (would love to do it for some D.O/Forest games or Cocktail Soft ones)

tldr: My DK4 videos from years ago have been removed, I did not take them down, I'm not sure why this happened. The project continues, if slowly.

I'm still slowly but surely translating Dragon Knight 4, but I had a slightly unfortunate update I felt I should address. Years ago, I uloaded 4 WIP videos of my DK4 translation to a video website formerly known as "Utreon" (it has since rebranded as "Playeur". And yes, that is a terrible new name.) I recently realized that all videos that I have uplodaded have been deleted there. I had no part in this. I do have a Youtube channel, but have sworn off posting eroge videos there considering how draconian their rules are, so I am looking into an alternate website to host them on. I'm leaning towards Rumble, but it's not definite yet. If anyone has alternative suggestions for video websites, feel free to post here. NicoNico had a 480p limit last time I checked, so that's no good. Anything by Meta will also have draconian rules, so that's also not an option. My first video of the introduction of DK4 was outdated, I've improved the opening script a lot since. So when/if I do upload new videos of DK4, expect a totally new intro video.

Can anyone shed light on what encoding the PC-98 KCG uses? The reference book say JIS 208, but no word processor I've found has been able to view the text I dumped from Record of Lodoss War.

Does anyone have more info on the X-Girl translation? Is there a page or thread someplace on this?
Hi. I'm interested in this topic too, but I can't find anything about it online. Maybe on Discord, but I don't have that app installed on my phone, so I'm in the dark. 🤷🏻‍♂️
If anyone has any news, please let us know. 😙

I didn't see the original EVO on the first post, so I will mention it.

... Or so I'd like to, but I forgot I cannot post links until I reach 5 posts... *sigh*

So you guys will have to look it up yourselves. Just websearch for "EVO PC-98 translation".

Excellent thread btw, thanks for sharing. Brandish 1-2-3 would have been awesome to have.

EDIT: I can finally post links now. Here you go:

Hi @bap206 @Nikokaro I'm a huge fans of this game since 1996 and I've collected both PC-98 and Windows (CD-ROM) version.
Finally I've managed to extract all X-Girl raw text from the this game (intro, gameplay, ending), translated them by online tool with some spell revision, then sorted everything out to read them easier like reading a novel.
Secondly, I still have feeling that my effort not enough, so I even purchase X-Girl book novel on Amazon, scanned and translated it to English, and comes up that novel version have deeper story. If you're interested, I can share and discuss about this game with you.

About X-Girl, the translator is active on the PC-98 discord. They're actively working on it, but I don't have further information.
Hi @BabaJeanmel could you share me the PC-98 discord invitation link? I would like to contribute by actively working on this X-Girl game, thank you.

I'm new to this; does PC-98 refer to DOS or Win98?
PC-9801 is practically a 286 PC (and PC-9821 = 386 PC) with (jpn) ms-dos as the operating system. I think you can also install Win 3.1 (jpn version), but I could be wrong. 🤔

They're not, unfortunately. I came here to ask the same thing before. Same for Brandish VT.

You can play the first game in English for the SNES, or the PSP remake, The Dark Revenant.
