Hacking Patching FW check in Nintendo Zone app?

When connecting to a Nintendo Zone via the app, the 3DS will prompt you to update and abort the connection if you don't.
I've tried running the Nintendo Zone app through HANS, but the FW spoofing doesn't work here, it fails to connect.

It would be nice to have access to the Nintendo Zone in the areas where it still works, you can sometimes get free download codes or enter some raffles (There's one currently where you can win a N3DS + Triforce heroes, for example!). Could one manually patch out the FW check and run it with a custom exefs/romfs to gain access again on an unupdated system?

I successfully dumped the files from the app via braindump, but i don't even know where to begin...

Assuming you are using 9.3+ it would be impossible currently.

Is it? I think Steveice managed to patch the FW check in the System Transfer app via HANS, why would it not be possible then to patch the FW check in the Nintendo Zone app via HANS?
