Can anyone recommend a free program that can password protect a USB drive without encrypting it? I plan to run a Linux OS off an 8gb drive at school. I don't want to encrypt it because decrypting a Linux iso takes a long time.
(ironically after reading GBAtemp for almost a year this is my first post)

Password protection is usually done on drive when they advertise it (and then the protection is debatable).
If you have a multi user and then wind in some encryption of the key files (nobody cares about your linux files).

Failing that boot off a CD (I suggest puppy linux although ironically it is a single user (all users root) OS)/another USB stick and encrypt the files you care about.

Other then encryption could do it the pain in the ass way and put files in a passworded .rar or zip file. Could buy a new USB drive with "U3" I think that allows password protecting a whole drive. Not sure if you can put it on a drive itself however it may be possible.

I for one hate U3 though.
