I am looking for a simple old school pci stereo sound card for my pc. I found some on ebay for as little as $10 however they are mostly for windows 95 windows 98. I am on a computer with a dual core Core2duo 64bit windows 8.1 pc. My question is does anyone know it those sound cards made for Windows 95 Windows 98 will work with my Windows 8.1 64 bit. All I need is stereo output I do not need all the 7.1 sound which all the newer cards seem to have I do not have the connections for those cards.

Most people buying card sound cards today are looking for all the inputs, crazy high quality, ultra low latency, many outputs if their mobo does not have it or similar.

If you have USB3 then maybe consider a USB sound card. They do pretty well these days.

I should also say 7.1 and such still output stereo just fine and will support it in the drivers. You stick it in the relevant port (usually light green) and carry on from there.

You can try finding something supported by https://www.kxproject.com/mission.php?language=en if you wanted, it is an independent project to develop drivers for older sound cards to run on newer OSes. I have not used them though so I don't know how well they work.

You are right, I didn't consider there will be an option to use stereo sound in the driver. Also I looked at that website and there are drivers for the cards I was looking at so it will work if I decide to get one of those cards. I may get a modern card now though since I didn't consider the stereo sound option. Thanks for the help.
