I found my old Wii dusty in the corner and want to use it again. It is softmodded and still on 4.1E but it's really messy and if I remember it correctly it was a messy softmod with a lot of different attempts. So I'm thinking to do a clean softmod and maybe upgrade to 4.3E.
So I have a few questions:

1. Should I stay on 4.1E or upgrade to 4.3E?
2. How can I "reset" the Wii to stock or something. Removing the old softmod and something like a factory reset?
3. I also have a SD card in the Wii, but some games have savegames on the Wii itself and on the SD-card. Do I only need to backup the savefiles on the SD-card or also on the Wii itself?

Or should I just update/upgrade my current softmod? Just delete all the wads and other custom files, empty the SD card and install/upgrade Bootmii and Homebrew Browser again?

I guess you need some extra information to help me out. Please tell me what you need to know and where I can find it. It's a very long time ago I did all this.

And as a bonus question. My attached harddrive is formatted with the custom Wii format, WBFS I think? Should I keep this or use an other format?

Make syscheck csv
Download modmii (see sticky)
On page 2 of modmii search for option to update through csv
Let it run
Install result on Wii
Done

Convert wbfs to fat32 (see message above this one)
Done

Thanks! I did the syscheck and after that updated all the WADs. So it says it's updated now.
Now I only have to figure out how I can update my usb loaders.

And I'll check to convert the wbfs to fat32. But is it recommended to do this? I think if I remember correctly I choose wbfs because the game would be smaller this way and loading was faster? (The usb-drive isn't big)

Hello,

Yes it is better to put your USB support in fat 32.

Because the WBFS format has become obsolete.

For the loader usb loader gx ==> https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/?SetFreedomCookie

You can even take the Wad from usb loader gx, to have it in chain forwader.

For Configurable loader v70 ==> https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/backup-launchers/usb/configurable-usb-loader

And for wiiflow ==> https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/backup-launchers/usb/wiiflow

And if you want, you can post a syscheck report for checking.:D ;)

I should do that to my wii/HD too, I'm not sure what I have to update but my HD is messy that I have it a WBFS partition and a fat32 one for files, but with some games I put on the fat32 with wibfu (I think?) that converted the iso to wbfs format XD

But what about game sizes? I thought in wbfs format the games were smaller. Will they become bigger in fat32? Because then they won't fit my drive

@ Knulen:

The size of the games vary according to the game.

Your loaders will recognize the fat32 without any worries.

In fat32 format you will have a wbfs file with your games in it.

@ Sliter :

To make only one partition, I advise you to save on another medium and then make a single partition

WBFS files are the same size as the game on a WBFS partition. The WBFS library treats each file as if it was a partition with one game on it.

Okay then I don't know the exact problem anymore. I thought the iso files were larger then the wbfs files

They generally are. An ISO for a single-layer game is usually around 4GB no matter what the actual game content's size is. It's around 8GB for a dual layer one.

WBFS removes the portions of the disc image that aren't allocated to anything so only what's actually needed to run the game gets put into the WBFS file or partition.
