Hacking old 3ds xl questions

so i've been looking for a new 3ds xl with no avail, they all seem to be updated to the latest version. i was wondering, what are the odds of getting one of the older 3ds xl models with firmware > 9.2? all of the new upgrades with the new 3ds xl i dont absolutely need to have, so if i have a better shot with one of these i'd rather go for it. is the list of serials the same for the old 3ds xls the same as the new ones?
